I'm Lisa (she/her pronouns) and I absolutely love helping people heal by challenging their negative core beliefs and finding their way back to their inherent worth and truth. My own path to healing has shaped the work I do, and allows me to hold hope and space for you. I believe in you, and your ability to heal, love, and accept all parts of yourself.
How'd I get here...
I completed my undergraduate degree at UNCA in History as a non-traditional student in 2008, and my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at WCU in 2013, with an additional certification in substance abuse counseling. I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC #10719) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS #20312), both in North Carolina.
Prior to returning to school in 2005, I worked as a paralegal for many years in family law. I worked with attorneys who fought for women's rights and freedom from domestic violence, introducing me to the incredible resiliency and strength of the human spirit. This was echoed in the women's prison I interned in during graduate school, and where my passion for empowering women to rise up from their darkness was deepened. I love helping humans build their confidence and self-worth.
In a society where we are shamed for our looks, our bodies, our success, our failures, our parenting, our partnering, and so much more, it's no wonder that low self-esteem and low self confidence are prolific. I believe this is a significant underlying issue to many challenges in a human's life and often contributes to self-medicating, which can lead to addiction, trauma, and low self-worth.
I primarily work with women, female identifying humans, AFAB and enby folx, and those who identify within the LGBTQ+ community who are experiencing and navigating major life transitions including recovery from addiction, trauma, marriage, divorce, parenting, grief and loss, and navigating the stages of life. I also love working with folx exploring their gender and sexual orientation. There is empowerment and freedom in gaining the courage and strength to address challenges in life. You are not alone, and you are strong enough to travel this healing journey!
The good news is, it is ABSOLUTELY possible to heal, discover your sense of self-worth and self-acceptance, and fall in love with yourself. We must start with being gentle with ourselves and quieting the inner critic. I approach this from a Mindful Self-Compassion lens which I am trained through Dr. Kristin Neff’s Center for Mindful Self-Compassion https://centerformsc.org
When you choose to work with me in a therapeutic setting, I will offer you a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental space where I will walk your healing journey with you. I cannot do your work for you, but I can offer you guidance and support to assist you on your way. Let's go!
